Community Engagement

Breast Cancer Awareness

As an NGO we want to raise more awareness to topics that are concerning our community. This is why we cooperate with ‘healthy bambini’  during breast cancer awareness month in October to organize an educational seminar. By hosting such an event once a year, we want to create an opportunity and safe space for mothers of our students to get informed about the risks of breast cancer and its prevention. Thanks to ‘healthy bambini’ providing doctors and professional resources all participants can get a free breast screening as well as an update on their vital signs and blood pressure. Since the correct diet is also an elementary part of breast cancer prevention we offer fresh fruit salad and water as a healthy snack. After one of our events a participant knows how and why and it is important to do a self examination of the breast each month and where to reach out for medical support if one observes any signs indicating breast cancer. We believe that these events can make a great impact since the women are likely to pass on the acquired knowledge onto their daughters, sisters, friends and neighbors.

Corona/COVID-19

  1. March 2020. Unfortunately, the coronavirus does not stop from the African continent and in Ghana, measures are being taken to protect people better from the consequences of this new disease and to limit its further spread. For this reason all schools in Ghana are closed since last Monday and so there is currently no school operation. Of course, the current situation brings with it a lot of uncertainty – but it should not prevent us from looking forward optimistically to the future and so we hope to survive everything well and to be able to reopen the school as soon as possible.

June 2020

Abigail, our volunteer in Ghana, came up with the idea a few weeks ago to help the families. Due to the current situation, local food prices have increased significantly. The families live on the limits of their existence, especially since the children do not have to have a daily hot meal at school. So Abigail and the teachers have now put together a package of rice and oil for the families who have registered a need. These packages were then taken by Abigail and the teachers to the families ” homes to see how the families and especially our students are doing and to have conversations with them.
